I love Historic Hotels America and am willing to forgive eccentricities - do not come here if you lust after modern cookie-cutter chains of hotels. This is a one-off beautiful old building with some differences. On arrival we were greeted with a smile and taken to our room which, to be honest, did have a bit of a musty smell but after a few hours and the air conditioning it went away - to be expected in an old cotton warehouse on the river. The paddle boat was moored outside our window which was the icing on the cake! The beds were comfortable and all the accruements worked i.e. towels, bathroom, coffee etc. The hotel is perfectly located on river and in the historic district. Walking everywhere is the way to go in Savannah as the squares are gorgeously shady and green. We went to the reception almost every night and enjoyed the healthy options of vegetables and humus etc - a pleasant change from the unhealthy options often available - that didn't stop us having a glass or two of bubbly served by a wonderful lady behind the bar. Surprise, surprise!! Totally delicious praline biscuits on the bed every night!! What a bonus!! The hotel also had coffees-to-go and water in the lobby. I loved the age and ancient bricks (probably made on a plantation by slave labour) in the lower levels - recommend this hotel to all those who enjoy history and not modernity.
